Macromedia Dreamweaver 8

Macromedia Dreamweaver 8.0
My favourite code editor is Macromedia (not Adobe!) Dreamweaver 8 – it has coloured syntax highlighting, FTP, code hints, and an incredibly powerful search function (I especially like the ability to perform a search and replace on an entire local directory). I’ve recently switched to Windows 7 64 bit on my main desktop, and have found a simple solution to stop the random crashes that occur with Dreamweaver 8 on Windows 7.

(1). Get the 8.0.2 update from Adobe here. <<< Link updated!
(2). Unzip it, preferably to somewhere that you can navigate to easily via a command prompt.
(3). Type “cmd” (without quotes) into the Start Menu search bar, do NOT press enter, then right click on the cmd.exe icon and select “Run as administrator”.
(4). Navigate to the directory where you extracted the update, and type this:
msiexec /update patchpackage.msp
(5). Press enter, and follow the update prompts.
You are now running Macromedia Dreamweaver 8.0.2, hopefully without the random crashes.

Can''t install Dreamweaver 8.0.2 Updater | InstallShield wizard interrupted

Installing the Dreamweaver 8.0.2 Updater fails on certain Windows systems. The 8.0.2 Updater installer starts, but then stops with the following InstallShield wizard error message:

"The wizard was interrupted before Macromedia Dreamweaver 8.0.2 Updater could be completely installed. Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again."

Then a second error message sometimes appears:

"The exception unknown software exception (0xc0000005) occurred in the application at location 0x009441902. Click on OK to terminate the program Click on CANCEL to debug the program."

There is an InstallShield .exe wrapper around the actual Dreamweaver 8.0.2 Updater installer which is an MSP file. If you have trouble with the standard Dreamweaver 8.0.2 Updater installer and its InstallShield wrapper, download the unwrapped MSP file for Dreamweaver 8.0.2 and run that. Once you download the MSP file to your hard drive, double-click it and see if Dreamweaver 8.0.2 installs successfully.

Note: After you install the Dreamweaver 8.0.2 Updater, verify that the updater successfully installed. Some users think they have installed 8.0.2, when in fact the updater installation didn't take. In Dreamweaver, go to Help > About Dreamweaver > and click the scrolling text to reveal the version number. It should say Dreamweaver 8.0.2. If it still says Dreamweaver 8.0 or 8.0.1, uninstall and then reinstall Dreamweaver 8 or Studio 8 to resolve the issue.

Note: It's possible that you don't get the error messages above when installing the Dreamweaver 8.0.2 Updater. However, if after updating, the Dreamweaver version still says 8.0 or 8.0.1, you could have previously canceled an updater installer. To resolve this issue, uninstall and then reinstall Dreamweaver 8 or Studio 8. (Ref. 211853)
